The cure for resentment: A simple prayer

digital heart mashup

I have the secret and it’s worked every time I’ve had a resentment. Trust me, I have far fewer these days (remember, just the one that I can think of) than I used to. Six years ago I couldn’t have listed on one sheet of paper all of the resentments I carried around.

You know what? Those people that I resented didn’t change. I did. My perspective changed and so did my life.

Forcing a fitness habit: 30/30/30

I’ve been flirting with getting in shape for well over a year now and it’s time to take some serious action to make this a true lifestyle habit. So for February I have made the goal to complete 30 thirty minute workouts in thirty days. Y’all know I don’t have the best track record with consistently blogging a project. Remember when I was going to post one picture every day for a year? That lasted something like a record-breaking 8 days.

I should shower

i haven't showered today

I should shower, but I’m not going to. Although, a case could be made for the sake of my hair. It looks like a grease bomb went off and the evidence is dripping from my scalp outwards. Your welcome for that visual.

You can meet normal people online

Meetup.com play date at Jennifer's

Meeting people online isn’t as weird as your mom says it is.
We have a close-knit playgroup that started on meetup.com. The moms I call my best friends probably never would’ve crossed paths if not for that group. They are all completely unique, very loving and unwaiveringly supportive of one another.

Actual food? Nope. Not here.

The next thing I know it’s January and I’ve moved to 30 hours per week. The original schedule already felt like full time anyway, so why not bump it up a little and make some extra cash?

That’s all well and good on paper. It’s the day-to-day living that I’m struggling with. You know, the stuff like cooking supper, bathing my child, bathing myself, doing laundry, doing anything after 5:00 p.m., etc.

If you’re looking for someone who eats real food right now it’s not me, but …

Christmas is for love: Wordless Wednesday

20111228-112015.jpg

My parents came for a (whirlwind, less than 24-hour) visit and we went to the new Crystal Bridges museum, which happens to be closed on Tuesdays FYI. So we sat outside and took pictures of ourselves. It was perfect.

Christmas resumes this year

Last year I plugged in a Christmas tree night light and called the decorating done. But then again we had a one-year-old who was waddling around the house pulling on everything.
I’d have been a fool to put up a tree.

This year she’s two. She knows that messing with mommy’s tree could land her in a full minute of time out and that is enough to keep her out of it.

I have a 1 in 250 shot at making $100,000 next year!

No joke. I entered the Cheap Sally “Bring Home the Bacon” frugal living blogger contest and I’m a state finalist (there are five in each state), which by my math means I have a 1 in 250 chance to get the job. Voting goes on from now until November 28th and [...]

Caringbridge for those who don’t get better

Marshall Johnson's caringbridge site about Juevinile Diabetes

If you have someone in your life who has experience a traumatic illness or injury you’ve probably heard of Caringbridge. It’s an amazing source of support, compassion and love in incredibly difficult times.
I don’t post about my first husband very often because it is a difficult topic, but today is All Saints day and I’m feeling quite open.
My first husband, Marshall, was a juvenile diabetic who had kidney failure and got very sick. After 16 weeks in the ICU he passed away on July 4th, 2006.
