The iPhone 4 takes amazing pictures. There’s no doubt about that. But the pictures tend to lack interest.
Everyone has that friend with the big fancy camera who knows how to use it takes amazing pictures. We can’t all have that hobby or talent. I for one am maxed out on hobbies. They are expensive and time consuming. Between knitting, sewing and at one time scrapbooking there’s no more “me” time to fill up.
So what about the rest of us? We want interesting pictures, but don’t know our way around a DSLR. I can’t even work the menu on my point-and-shoot style camera. My expertise stops at knowing how to turn the flash off and on.
The question became how do I make this fabulous piece of technology that is the iPhone take visually interesting pictures? I knew someone out there, someone much smarter than me, had to have come up with a solution. And they had!
It’s the Hipstamatic app.
The Hipstamatic for iPhone is an application that brings back the look, feel, unpredictable beauty, and fun of plastic toy cameras from the past.
The pictures below were all taken with the Hipstamatic app. You have very little control over the pictures and you don’t even get to see them immediately, which it turns out is part of the fun. Remember what it’s like to wait for a polaroid? What you do have control over is the camera and film type. Play around. Have fun.
One of my new favorite things to do is to take pictures of something ultra contemporary like an iPad with Hipstamatic. It just looks so wrong it’s fabulous.
